Either Kg Orang Asli Lubuk Wong, or Pasu, or Terboi, or Pian. I forgot which.
But I can confirm this is in Jerantut, Pahang.
They were a shy lot. Even the dogs seemed a bit reserved. Alas.
I think time moves at a different pace here.

Dad and Mak Lang Tomah

Passing by the National Library

We drove around KL on the 3rd day of Raya on the way to Keramat to visit Mak Lang Tomah. Dad was particularly impressed with how exceptionally clear the blue sky was, and urged me to snap pictures of the buildings in the city. So like the filial daughter that I am, the camera went on a snap-snap-snapping frenzy although we were in a moving vehicle.
I'm not really sure where or how Mak Lang fits into the big family's tree picture, but what I know is Dad calls her 'Kak Tomah' and used to lepak at her house during secondary school where she'd always have room for Dad to tumpang makan whenever he had to stay back for co-curricular activities. Her house was also the first rumah batu Dad ever slept in, and I love to listen to the story of how he couldn't sleep much that night coz he was afraid that the walls may cave in thus squashing him alive - "kalau dinding kayu yang runtuh, ringan, boleh la nak tolak lagi, kalau dinding batu?".
Mak Lang, now in her seventies, could only walk if aided. Anyway for almost a year now (if memory serves me right) she'd be either on the bed (they got a hospital bed in her room) or the lounge sofa in the sitting room whenever we came to visit. Make no mistake though, this wife of a former Gabenor Melaka may be frail in body but her mind is as sharp as ever.
Among the bits in our conversation : the share price of the company that I worked for, and her advice for me to "cari boyfriend yang bagus-bagus tau!".

In support of the event - more pictures of the venue for the upcoming first Malaysian Fotopages gathering on August 29th (kebanyakannya dikorek dari folder assignment Taman-taman Putrajaya awal tahun dulu).
Now, don't you feel like you just have to be there?

Bucket And Spade
My bucket and spade is always to me,
The best thing ever to take to the sea,
I love to play making a sand castles,
Far away from this rush and hassle,
But leaving it on the deserted beach,
The tide comes in taking it out of reach
I always take them on holiday with me,
Looking forward to hours of glee,
They are a wonderful toy,
Suitable for a girl or boy,
Roll on to the warm summer time,
When I can get away from the city grime.

Island dreams Part 1
|
|
Last March, I 'had' to go on a work visit program, covering four islands off the Mersing shores, Johor.
At first I thought it is going to be a boring visit, considering:
1) I'd be the only female member of the group
2) I was told that the others' average age would be almost double that of mine (read: old geezers 0) )
3) It was meant for visiting the sites of several new projects (which I somehow expected to be in areas near the swamps or uninhabited stretches of land, far from where humanity exists)
I was correct only on the first account.
The views were so breathtaking, I wish I had a digicam and could bring the moving version of the images back for all to see.
I wish I live on one of the islands!
Wait, hmm.... or at least have a holiday abode there. (Can't live without the occasional theatre shows or shopping sojourns . Last I checked, nope, the island people have neither).
The people, their lifestyle, their pace of living..... it was hard not to forget that we were there for work, especially during the boatrides and after the sun sets.
